What is the India Smart Utility Week 2022?
The India Smart Utility Week (ISUW), now running on its eighth edition, took place from March 2nd to 4th through a digital platform. India is the world’s fifth largest economy, with a population of over 1.3 billion and is accelerating the digital transformation of its power systems and the overhaul of its energy distribution models. As in previous years, the European Union (EU) partnered with ISUW 2022, setting up an EU Zone at the exhibition, with booths from EU Member States, EU-India projects and EU Association. The aim was to showcase EU technologies and innovative solutions for Smart Grids with participation of several EU-India joint initiatives and sector associations.
The ISUW brings together main Indian sector stakeholders, including top energy experts to discuss trends and share best practices. The themes addressed were numerous: electric mobility, smart cities, and the energy transition.

Insights
Wrap up and Insights from the ISUW
We leveraged our participation at the event to show how we are developing a smart meter roll-out system which can provide a useful solution to meet the current needs of India’s utility market. To modernize the power grid, the country is due to install 250 smart meters over the next four years. Due to the high investment required for the modernization of India’s infrastructure which may represent a barrier to the process, we shared potential sustainable business models to make the solutions more affordable, specifically pay-as-you-go solutions.
