Grid Edge Devices

QEd3000

QEd3000 is a software-defined platform that turns secondary substations into intelligent, connected grid assets. It consolidates capabilities from multiple devices into a single platform to manage and evolve grid operations. More than a traditional RTU, it combines monitoring, control, communications, protection, automation, fault management, and edge applications without added complexity.

‍

Overview

With QEd3000, utilities can seamlessly collect, process and analyze field data directly at the source, unlocking faster decision-making, predictive maintenance and advanced automation. Its embedded virtualization technology supports a wide range of use cases, from LV monitoring to MV automation up to DER management, empowering utilities to boost reliability, efficiency and resilience.

Features

Real-time visibility, fault identification and remote control of MV and LV assets enable faster fault isolation, quicker service restoration and reduced field interventions, boosting grid reliability, safety and operational efficiency.

In the event of abnormal conditions, the system instantly detects the issue and acts autonomously, isolating the fault and safeguarding both assets and people. It’s a smart, automatic response that ensures maximum safety and service continuity without the need for manual intervention.

Ultra-fast fault management restores power in under 3 seconds, ensuring seamless service continuity for end users. It automatically detects,

isolates, and reconfigures the network, delivering maximum reliability and minimal disruption without manual intervention.

Utilities can collect and manage smart meter and field device data through a single platform, reducing costly field interventions for FW/HW updates and shortening the time for data availability to central systems.

QEd3000 captures fast-changing network states with precision, running a PMU application natively on its edge platform. This delivers high-resolution, GPS-synchronized measurements from the substation-no standalone PMU hardware required.

QEd 3000 detects voltage fluctuations and instability on distribution networks by running the vOLTC application. The application enables intelligent automatic control of On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC) MV/LV transformers dynamically stabilising voltage levels across the LV network as generation and load conditions continuously change.

QEd 3000 connects with supervisory and energy management systems through standard industrial protocols. By virtualising the gateway, QEd 3000 allows utilities to monitor and interact with DERs without deploying specific gateway hardware at each connection point.
